One of the signature dishes at Pempek Syamil is Pempek Crispy Ikan Sungai (Crispy River Fish Pempek), which embraces the concept of empowering local fishing villages and women living along the banks of the Musi River. We use lampam fish—locally known as iwak betino—a type of fish that is often overlooked by the people of Palembang due to its small size and the many fine bones in its body. However, research has shown that lampam fish contains a wealth of nutrients, making it highly beneficial for pregnant women and growing children. We process this bony fish using the right methods and innovations to create a deliciously crispy pempek with great taste and texture, while also increasing the economic value of this underutilized fish.
